Title | Need applicants for NBPTS |
Body | From: "Keiko Schneider" Some members may recall the discussion regarding NBPTS (National Board for Professional Teaching Standards) certification earlier this year. We need more teachers to make this certification a reality. The deadline for the application is quickly approaching; December 31st. The certification is important for whole field of teaching Japanese in the US for several reasons. First, teachers gain "highly qualified teacher" status. Under No Child Left Behind, the certification is going to help you keep your job and therefore the Japanese program. The certification will raise the standards of the field and create more leaders. It will also attract more college students who are going to teaching Japanese. At ACTFL, Japan Foundation generously invited NBPTS advisor Martie Semmer and National Board Certified French teacher Toni Theisen to come to speak at its luncheon Saturday. Toni will present a NCJLT-sponsored session with Prof. Tohsaku on Saturday 4:30 PM - 5:45 PM titled "Pursuing Accomplished Teaching: Preparing for National Board Certification" http://www.colorado.edu/ealld/atj/ncjlt/ACTFL.html#nbpts Please take a serious consideration if you are eligible. |
