Boston University seeks a Director of Language Programs to bring its excellent language curriculum to the next level (pending budgetary approval). This will be a newly created position in response to the University's strategic plan emphasizing global perspectives and initiatives. The Director will lead the development of a comprehensive, state-of-the-art language instruction program for undergraduate and graduate students. The Director will also work in partnership with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the chairs of the relevant departments to formulate strategic plans and policies for language training and will be responsible for developing collaborations with other international programs on the Boston campus and abroad. Candidates will have a PhD in a relevant field; native or near-native fluency in English and at least one other language; and a record of excellence in teaching, as well as demonstrated leadership in language programs and relevant administrative experience. The Director will be considered for an academic appointment at a rank consistent with his or her teaching and scholarly qualifications. Review of applications will begin October 22, 2008 and interviews will be held at ACTFL in November 2008. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
