The Goethe Institut expects to send out materials for the contest by the end of October so teachers have time to plan the materials into your curriculum. For those who are not already registered, the Award of Excellence is contest in which teachers show a DVD to their students, which examines one facet of German culture. The students in turn have to answer questions based on the video, and the instructor sends back an entry form based on these results. Schools across the U.S. and Canada have taken part in this contest, and in the past, we've had numbers exceeding 80,000 students. The grand prize is a trip to Germany and a free course at a Goethe-Institut. Participating schools will also receive consolation prizes just for taking part.
