TitleUpdate on Discontinuation of 3 AP Courses
Body
As you are aware, the College Board announced this past spring the discontinuation of three AP courses after their May 2009 exam administrations: AP Computer Science AB, AP French Literature, and AP Latin Literature. In response to concerns we heard from AP teachers about the impact this decision could have to other courses in the discipline, we have sent a letter to principals explaining the decision and providing recommendations for ways that schools can realign their programs to best serve students who study these disciplines.

This letter is being mailed to principals at schools that offer these courses, as well as district officials who participate in the course audit. It will arrive this week and early next week. Teachers are being advised of the letter through APCentral (available now), electronic discussion groups (later this week), and AP teacher newsletters (later this month).

A copy of the letter can be found here:

Please forward this information as appropriate to your constituents and/or feel free to post updates on your organization’s web site if desired.

Note: External fund-raising efforts are under way in support of AP Italian, and educators can expect an update by October 2008 announcing whether sufficient funds have been raised to ensure the future of that subject.
