1) Senior Research Associate/Research Scientist
The George Washington University’s National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition (NCELA), within the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, seeks qualified applicants for a Senior Research Associate or Research Scientist position. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA), NCELA collects, analyzes, synthesizes, and provides technical assistance information on the education of English language learners.

Qualifications: Master’s degree or doctorate in educational psychology, education, linguistics, policy, or related area; demonstrated knowledge of English as a second language/bilingual education methodology and the educational/research needs of English language learners and the personnel serving them in pre-K-12 institutions; demonstrated ability in quantitative research or research on assessment; familiarity with the U.S. Department of Education/OELA and No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB); excellent written and oral communication skills; strong service orientation; Internet, MS Office/Windows; minimum 3-5 years’ experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse students in U.S. schools or in related organizations. Bilingual ability preferred.

Responsibilities: Identify, collect, analyze, synthesize and provide technical assistance information related to the implementation of NCLB, particularly Titles I and III; assist with analysis of annual reports of state departments of education and federal grantees; assist with development of conference agendas and program materials; respond to requests for information related to the education of limited English proficient students; analyze data and assist with producing online resources.

2) Research Associate/Librarian
NCELA seeks qualified applicants for a full-time Research Associate/Librarian position.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in library science or in education, linguistics, policy, or related area; 2-3 years of experience developing and managing a collection in a library or similar environment including organizing materials and evaluating records; excellent written and oral communication skills; strong service orientation; basic understanding of librarianship, reference practices, and organizing information for a web-based environment. Preferable: bilingual skills; education and social science reference practices and resources.

Responsibilities: Identify, collect, analyze, and synthesize educational information related to the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, particularly Titles I and III; analyze data and research trends in library and information science; manage resource collection library, database, and Internet and library search strategies; gather and create policy, guidelines, and procedures for resource collection library; produce and assist with technical documentation for website; identify material and assist with quarterly newsletter; determine reference and bibliographic needs for clientele; and respond to related requests for information on the education of limited English proficient students.
