Body | From http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/northcounty/20080725-9999-1mc25smclass.html Learning Chinese one tone at a time Students pick up basic phrases in federally funded language class By Linda Lou July 25, 2008 Three sections of a six-week Chinese class finished yesterday at Mission Hills. The classes were federally funded as part of a language program called STARTALK. The program aims to increase the number of people teaching foreign languages that are uncommon in the United States, such as Chinese, Arabic and Hindi, and expand their use in schools. Other STARTALK Chinese classes in the county are wrapping up next week at two high schools in the Poway Unified School District and one in the San Diego Unified School District. Read about students’ experiences and more details about the classes and the STARTALK initiative at http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/northcounty/20080725-9999-1mc25smclass.html . |
