TitleLinguistic Atlas Projects: English Accents in the United States
Body
A May 3 article in the Athens Banner-Herald talks about a recent grant to the Linguistic Atlas Projects, which map English accents in the United States. The $349,600 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to digitize older recordings of people's speech, as well as phonetic transcripts of interviews dating from the 1930s, before tape recorders were widely available. The digitized recordings will eventually be available to the public on the Internet.

This project could be useful for English teachers who want to expose their students to a wide range of American accents.
