Appalachian State University's Summer Graduate Institute in Foreign Languages and Linguistics
Institute Dates: July 14-August 1, 2008
Boone, North Carolina

This 3-week institute is designed for K-12 teachers, community college teachers, and graduate students in French, Spanish, and TESL. Starting in Summer 2008, they have added an undergraduate-level course in German. There are also one-week institute modules if you can't do an entire summer course.

Content courses in each target language (plus TESL) are offered in the morning (9 a.m., -12 noon), followed by a required target-language lunch where you can discuss course contents more informally outside class.

An afternoon FL Methods class (1-4:00 p.m.) is instructed in English, and participants complete projects in target-language work groups.

Evening events (films, poetry readings) featuring the target cultures, as well as cultural events offered through the Appalachian Summer Festival will make the experience a memorable one.
