The Barahona Center is an academic center at California State University San Marcos that promotes literacy in English and Spanish. The Center endeavors to inform current and future educational decision-makers about books centered around Latino people and culture and about books in Spanish and their value in the education of English-speaking and Spanish-speaking children and adolescents.

The Barahona Center will be presenting the following three summer workshops for 2008:

* Current Issues: Books in Spanish for Young Readers (June 9-11, 2008)
* Books and Reading Strategies for English-language Learners in Grades K-8 (June 23-25, 2008)
* Books in Spanish for Children and Adolescents/Los libros en español para niños y adolescentes (July 14-16, 2008)
