Title | Passage Rating Workshop |
Body | From http://larcnet.sdsu.edu/workshops.php?page=prw2008 Presenters from the U.S. Government who have worked with James Child's model of text typology will be offering a special workshop on passage rating. The goal of this 3-day workshop is to enable participants to understand how to accurately rate and select texts for curricular purposes. The workshop sets for the criteria for assigning language levels (ILR levels) to both written and spoken texts, focusing particularly on levels 0+ to 3. Participants are introduced to the criteria underlying passage rating and to selecting and rating passages both in English and in at least one of the other languages they work in. Attention will be given to the application of these rated texts to classroom exercises and participants will be asked to identify appropriate classroom activities based on texts at the various levels discussed for students at varying ability levels. June 2-4, 2008 Language Acquisition Resource Center San Diego State University San Diego, California Registration is free but limited to 20 participants.
