Plain English: Help or Hindrance?
By Suzanne Irujo
January/February 2008

Lately I've been seeing a lot of references to "plain English." They remind me of a movement in the 1960s to get lawyers and government agencies to speak and write so other people could understand them. The movement must have been somewhat successful, given that there is a "Plain English Foundation," which teaches people to write in plain English.
