This tutorial on using the Internet for learning languages is one of a national series of tutorials written by qualified tutors, lecturers and librarians from across the UK.

The tutorial is an interactive step-by-step guide that shows students how to make the most effective use of the Internet in the context of learning languages. It aims to be relevant to a wide range of students studying languages at all levels (French, German, Spanish, Italian, English as a Foreign Language, as well as less widely taught and used languages).

Learners are taken on a ‘site-seeing' Tour - an overview of the types of websites that can help with the study of languages. The Discover section then provides advice on finding further resources, and gives tips on planning effective search strategies. The Judge section teaches techniques for evaluating websites. Finally, in Success, the tutorial presents specific examples of how the Internet can meet the needs of individual learners. Quizzes are included in the Tour and Judge sections. Users can add sites that interest them to the Links Basket, which functions on the ‘shopping basket' principle.
