Title | Northwest Indian Language Institute |
Body | The 11th annual NILI Summer Institute will take place at the University of Oregon, July 7th - 18th, 2008. Courses will cover a range of topics, including Northwest Native languages; linguistics; materials and technology; and teaching methods for Native languages, centered around the theme “From the classroom to the family: Language in the home.” In addition, there will be a weekend workshop July 11-13. This workshop will develop curriculum and materials that connect the classroom with the home. This will include classroom language activities that can be done at home by children with their families. This workshop will also address how to develop a family friendly environment within schools so parents and families feel encouraged to spend time with their children in the classroom, making it a focal point for community.
