TitleCall for Papers: Cognitive Linguistics in the Second Language Classroom
Body
From http://linguistlist.org/issues/18/18-3639.html

Considering the rise in number of new publications on Cognitive Linguistics as applied to instructed L2 learning, there will be a workshop on this topic at the 3rd German Cognitive Linguistics Conference taking place at Leipzig/Germany, 25-27 September 08 (conference website: http://www.uni-leipzig.de/~gcla08 ). Participants will share and discuss ideas and experiences and furthermore show that a Cognitive Linguistic approach to language is in line with modern strands of education-oriented applied linguistics and especially useful to second language pedagogy. Researchers who are interested in this topic are invited to submit abstracts focussing on but not limited to the following areas in connection with Cognitive Linguistics:

- grammar teaching
- metaphor theory
- vocabulary expansion
- L2 acquisition of phonology
- cultural models
- language/s for specific purposes
- L2 pragmatics
- mother tongue interference
- L2 thinking for speaking
- etc.

Confirmed speakers and topics:
- Sabine de Knop (Brussels), ''Conceptualisation and case-marking of abstract motion events in German or why do Germans wish 'einen guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr' on New Year's eve''?
- Constanze Juchem-Grundmann (Koblenz), ''Teach concepts not expressions: Cognitive metaphor theory in the second language classroom''
- Marjolijn Verspoor (Groningen), ''A conceptual approach to the English lexicon''
