Although only 23 percent of foreign-born Latinos speak English "very well," 88 percent of the second generation are fluent. That number rises to 94 percent in later generations. The figures are part of a four-year series of surveys conducted by the Pew Hispanic Center, a nonpartisan think tank that studies Latinos' impact on the nation.
