TitleTeaching Opportunity in Berlin for U.S. Faculty
Body
The FU-BEST program (the Berlin European Studies Program of the Freie Universität), in cooperation with the Council of Independent Colleges in the U.S. (http://www.cic.edu ), invites interested and qualified faculty members from CIC member institutions to submit an application to teach up to two content courses during a guest-semester in Berlin, one of which would be a content course entitled The Transatlantic Experience, starting in the Fall 2008 semester. This course is intended to fit a variety of academic disciplines and might also feature a multi- or interdisciplinary content. The FU-BEST program will pay the visiting faculty member selected for a given semester the honorarium for one or two content courses. The faculty member must be accompanied by at least 8 or 10 students from his/her home institution, depending on whether one or two courses are taught by the visitor; these students will be required to enroll in the FU-BEST program on a regular, standard basis, including the one or two courses taught by the visiting faculty member. The Transatlantic Experience course will also be open to other FU-BEST participants, a second content course taught by the visitor would normally only enroll students from the visiting faculty member's institution. FU-BEST will provide the visiting faculty member with some office space onsite as well as a 750 Euro travel allowance for air travel between the U.S. and Berlin. Candidates must be nominated by the chief academic officer of their home institution. Please see the application materials posted on the FU-BEST website for further details.

The application deadline is January 1 for the entire subsequent academic
year. Further information can be found on the application form, available for downloading on the FU-BEST website. Questions may be addressed to Dr. Dirk Verheyen at the Freie Universität Berlin:
