The Duke-UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies and the Duke Slavic and East European Language Resource Center, in cooperation with The Center for East European and Russian/Eurasian Studies at The University of Chicago, are hosting a one day workshop for scholars and staff affiliated with Title VI centers who are interested in language proficiency testing.
Registration is free for all NRC and LRC representatives. There will be a dinner on the evening of Friday, October 12, 2007, for all participants. The fee for dinner is $20 per person. All working sessions will be on Saturday, October 13.
Keynote Speaker: Beth Mackey, U.S. Department of Defense
This conference will be devoted to discussing existing practices and problems in testing proficiency in Slavic and Eastern European languages, improving learning outcomes, and strengthening curricula at the advanced levels. The presenters will include leading experts from government and academia, including trained testers from ACTFL and TRKI. If you have a specialist in language testing affiliated with your center who would like to participate as a presenter, we still have a few time slots available. Afternoon sessions will be devoted to specific issues and problems in proficiency testing and learning outcomes.
