| Body | From: "Anselmo Villanueva" Grand Opening: Cipriano Ferrel Education Center-- Sunday, Oct. 12 News Update from PCUN, Oregon's Farmworker Union PCUN members and supporters are invited to join us at this upcoming celebration: Grand opening of Cipriano Ferrel Education Center: A Milestone in farmworker housing, a key to unity in Woodburn Governor Kulongoski to speak at opening ceremonies When: Sunday, Oct. 12, 3:00 PM Where: Cipriano Ferrel Education Center 1274 Fifth Street Woodburn, OR 97071 With the completion of the Cipriano Ferrel Education Center, the Farmworker Housing Development Corporation has reached a milestone in the history of Woodburn and its farmworker community. Thanks to the generosity, participation, and support of the City of Woodburn, farmworker movement activists, public officials, individuals, businesses, civic organizations, the Woodburn High School, and philanthropic foundations, the Cipriano Ferrel Education Center now stands on the grounds of Nuevo Amanecer, a farmworker housing complex located in Woodburn as the product of an important united effort and a provider of services and opportunities for farmworker families. The new Center will offer a host of services for local farmworker families: Space for Head Start and day care programs will be available for the children of low-income farmworkers, as well as 4-H club activities, after school programs, tutoring, and arts programs. Adults will benefit from a computer lab with 15 computers, computer use training, English instruction, and classes in financial management, home ownership counseling, and citizenship. Cultural programs will include festivals, arts and crafts displays, theater, music, and other activities for both farmworker families and the general public in Woodburn. The Center is also exploring with Chemeketa Community College the possibility of providing additional English classes and vocational trainings. Our website is found at http://www.pcun.org.
