The immersion program at the Becker Elementary School, YALLA (Young American Learning Languages Activities), is an excellent model of teaching Arabic. The program began in 1994 and the design of the program included 50% instruction in English and 50% in Arabic. The nine-year review of the program which included classroom observation, parent and teacher surveys and interviews, and data on the students’ academic achievement in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades shows great academic results in both languages.
