Title | Lesson Plan: Parts of Speech and Poetry |
Body | From http://www.readwritethink.org/lessons/lesson_view.asp?id=1058 Overview Grammar can serve as a jumping off point for exploring language. This lesson, which is appropriate for middle school and some high school students, extends students’ knowledge of parts of speech and encourages them to look critically at how language functions. Students review the parts of speech. They then read the poem “Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll, identifying parts of speech and interpreting what the nonsensical words mean. After experimenting with an online magnetic poetry kit, they create their own kits, which they use to both revise and reinterpret Carroll’s poem and write their own original poems.
