The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) seeks a full-time director. CARLA is one of the U.S. Department of Education’s Title VI National Language Resource Centers, whose role is to improve the nation's capacity to teach and learn foreign languages effectively. CARLA is engaged in a number of interrelated research and program initiatives focused on second/foreign language teaching, learning, and assessment. Through an annual summer institute program and a wide array of international conferences and regional seminars, CARLA supports the professional development of language teachers. Additionally, CARLA offers a number of resources to language teachers including a battery of language proficiency assessments and a working paper series. The mission of CARLA is to study multilingualism and multiculturalism, to develop knowledge of second language acquisition, and to advance the quality of language teaching, learning, and assessment.

General Duties of the CARLA Director: As the public face of CARLA, the director will provide leadership by setting priorities and direction for this interdisciplinary, research-based center, securing and expanding funding, and fostering collaboration among all CARLA stakeholders. This is a full-time, annually renewable administrative position that may include limited teaching and research options depending upon the needs of CARLA and the background of the individual. For the successful candidate, exceptional circumstances may warrant the granting of faculty rank and the possibility of faculty tenure.
