The Institut für Internationale Kommunikation in Zusammenarbeit mit der Heinrich-Heine-Universität (IIK Düsseldorf e.V.) is offering two teacher training seminars in business German: "Wirtschaftsdeutsch unterrichten - Einstieg und Auffrischung" July 2-13 and "Wirtschaftsdeutsch handlungs- und produktionsorientiert " July 16-20.

Description:
The first seminar consists of a series of hands-on-workshops, focusing on the necessary basics for the teaching of business German, up-to-date information and new ideas on typical course subjects, such as marketing; quality management; stock exchange; economic regional studies, cross-cultural communication; and method of negotiating. The program is practice-oriented and consists of three elements: input from chosen experts in the field, field trips to various institutions (Federal Bank) or companies (Bayer Leverkusen) and lesson sketches including guided Internet research for existing teaching materials. The Internet plays an important but not dominant role. New material is presented: books, multimedia, video, tests and certificates. Units are selected according to participants' wishes; a questionnaire is sent upon registration.

The second seminar focuses on role-plays and business games in class as well as the preparation and work on case studies and simulations from various economical areas such as marketing and the tourism industry. The workshops introduce and test numerous methods and techniques of brainstorming and decision making skills helpful for the project work. These aspects of the seminar make it also highly recommended for DaF teachers who are interested in ideas how business oriented topics can be implemented in a general-language class or simply would like to expand their didactical and methodical repertoire. Units are selected according to participants' wishes; a questionnaire is sent upon registration.

Application deadline: Rolling admission until May 15 (after that date, admission on a space-available basis).
