Here are some game ideas for practicing the target language from members of the More TPRS listserv:

With stories- I type out the story and cut it into sentences (or 1/2 sentences, depending on the size of the class and length of the story) Mix up the strips and Pass out the strips so each student gets 3-4. I start the timer, and the person with the 1st line of the stories stands up and reads it in Spanish, then sits down, then the second line stands up, reads their line, and sits down.) I time them and we try to get the fastest time... Everytime I make them move desks so they have new lines each time. The of course we compare class times to see who is the champion.

Quick draw- In pairs, students sit facing each other with mini whiteboards. I say begin, and they have 30 seconds to illustrate any sentence from the story. On my count they show their board to their partner.... Partner A tries to say the sentence that partner B drew before partner B says the sentence that partner A drew.

You can put vocabulary on 1/2 of a 3x5 card, with yellow for nouns, purple for verbs, green for adjectives, orange for prepositions etc. Put students in teams of 3-5, and have each team draw two or three of each color and give each team 4 minutes to write a short dialogue primarily using those words; then collect the dialogues and read them to the class. (that way the teacher can edit for content and accuracy as s/he reads aloud, to avoid improper or inappropriate content).

A scorekeeping idea:

Call out a question or phrase and have them write the correct answer on the board. It is not a relay, but I do try to put a time limit on it or keep them from copying.

If they get it right, instead of getting a point, they get a turtle part. First, they get to draw the shell of a turtle (circle). The second correct response gets them a turtle head, then a tail, then 4 legs - a total of 7 questions correct to make a full turtle. Once they have a full turtle, for each correct answer instead of adding another part to their turtle, they can "amputate" another teams' turtle, one piece at a time. However, if their own turtle is amputated, then they must earn that part back.
