Hispanic Cultural Heritage: Folklore, Mythology and Fantasy Literature
11th-15th June 2007
Instituto Cervantes, London

To be hosted by the Instituto Cervantes in conjunction with the University of Extremadura (Spain). This seminar is part of the ''Extremadura Week'' taking place at the Instituto Cervantes in London, the aim of which is to offer an array of outstanding activities about Extremadura, in particular those concerning heritage and creativity.

Contributions are invited to the above seminar, which aims to bring together scholars from Spain and Great Britain, in any discipline, working on folklore, mythology and fantasy literature from Iberian and British communities.

The official languages of the conference are Spanish and English.

We will be particularly interested in papers, panels and workshops on the following themes:

-- Oral Heritage: folklore and popular traditions related to fantasy; myths and traditions of the Iberian Peninsula and the British Isles

-- Literary Heritage: fantasy literature in Spanish and English; fantasy literature and its sub-genres; fantasy literature and mythology compared; literary-folklore relations in Hispanic and English literature; fantasy themes and motifs; authors and literary works

-- Educational Heritage: cultural heritage as an educational resource; reading skills and heritage; cultural and tourist itineraries based on myths and legends

-- Audiovisual Heritage: Myths in films and visual images

Papers should be designed to last no more than 20 minutes. Deadline for abstracts and panel proposals is May 20, 2007.
