Body | The University of Victoria and En'owkin Centre are pleased to offer the following learning opportunities for people interesting in enhancing their knowledge of indigenous language revitalization. Space is limited in these wonderful offerings so please register soon! --- Methods for Immersion Language Teaching and Learning LING 187: Special Topics in Aboriginal Language Revitalization, 1.5 Units Dates: March 26 – 31, 2007; 9 am – 4 pm Location: En’owkin Centre, Penticton, BC Immersion formats create highly effective environments in which endangered aboriginal languages can be taught and learned. This six-day intensive course for language teachers and others involved in language preservation and revitalization work, provides an introduction to immersion teaching and learning principles and techniques, and explores three practical immersion methods in order to create a foundation for practical applications in a variety of situations and programs. --- Language in First Nations Culture LING 186, 1.5 Units Dates: April 30 – May 5, 9 am to 4:30 pm Location: University of Victoria An intensive examination of the ways in which language is embedded in the cultural heritage and social context of a selected community, with a focus on oral history, including legends, song, dance, and cultural practices, methods, and protocols, along with the impacts and implications of social change on language.
