"If this decision is not reversed, Southern Oregon University will be the first (Oregon University System) institution to eliminate the teaching of one of the most important languages of the 21st century," wrote Christian Stehr, an Oregon State University German professor spearheading the effort. German is one of three majors, along with geography and geology, marked for elimination at SOU as the university struggles to deal with an ongoing budget shortage.
