The Western Illinois University’s Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures is seeking an energetic teacher and scholar with a specialization in German to expand the university’s well-established German program. This position offers an exciting opportunity for creative and imaginative leadership in a multilingual department. Appointment August 20, 2007.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. (in hand by the time of appointment) in German Literature, German Culture Studies, German Linguistics, or German Second Language Pedagogy and an active research record in one of these fields. Demonstrated recent excellence in teaching German language to undergraduate university students. Capacity to teach at all levels of the undergraduate program and to contribute to the activities of the department as per responsibilities listed below. Native or near-native fluency in German and English.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching at all levels of the undergraduate program consistent with the priorities of the university and its internationalization and diversification policies which emphasize practical performance outcomes in both language and culture. Active commitment to research in these areas in line with university priorities (the university strongly encourages research activity). As appropriate, development of curricula and materials, technology-enhanced teaching and learning systems and language teacher preparation programs. Candidates may be asked to teach in the Quad Cities campus.
