Topics will include design of standards-based curricula and lessons, proficiency-oriented methods, the use of communicative tasks, form-focused instruction, and the presentation of Chinese structures in the cultural context. Technology that facilitates the effectiveness of these methods will be explored, including equipment and software appropriate for CFL instruction, teaching/learning activities that can be created with currently available digital tools, and how the tools can be shaped to fit a particular level or purpose. Participants will design proficiency-oriented lessons for their classes, using audio and visual tools such as PowerPoint, Quia, Audacity, and other free on-line resources, to meet their objectives.
