SHOICHET St. Petersburg Times January 5, 2007 The podcast is becoming a popular way for word buffs and foreign language enthusiasts to learn something new. The iTunes Store alone lists more than 100 free podcasts focusing on languages from Turkish to Tagalog. "Technology is making the most amazing difference in the way we teach languages," says Ava Chitwood, an assistant professor at the University of South Florida who uses podcasts in her introductory world languages class. "A student can be off campus and still do practice and drill work. You don't have to be in a language lab. You don't have to be in the classroom." And with podcasts, you don't have to be an official student. "Anyone, any time can go on and learn a language," Chitwood says.
