| Body | FLTEACH A query to the FLTEACH listserv requesting songs that reinforce the use of the preterite received the following suggestions: --- I have used AYER by Gloria Estefan, but it is a difficult song to sing aloud. It contains the preterite as well as a good Mexican geography lesson. Conley, P. Re: Pret. songs. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv (FLTEACH@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU, 13 Sept. 2005) --- Three songs I would recommend are: 1. "Cuando te vi" by Charlie Bravo. I in fact use this song to introduce the preterite of -er and -ir verbs in Spanish II. 2. "Amor del bueno" by Reyli. This beautiful song has been nominated for a Latin Grammy for "Song of the Year.” 3. "El cine" by Mecano. This song can be used to review the preterite tense or vocabulary for "el cine.” You're right "Ayer" by Gloria Estefan is also a fantastic song to review preterite tense. I make up two different cloze exercsies (A and B), have pairs of students listen to the song, fill-in the blanks, and have the pairs help each other with the right answers. Watson, G.
