Title | Now Available Online: Proficiency-Oriented Language Instruction and Assessment: A Curriculum Handbook for Teachers |
Body | From the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition, http://www.carla.umn.edu/index.html The Proficiency-Oriented Language Instruction and Assessment: A Curriculum Handbook for Teachers, edited by Diane J. Tedick (2002), was designed to provide world language teachers with the background knowledge, ideas, and resources for implementing proficiency-oriented language instruction and classroom-based performance measures into their curriculum. Tied to the national Standards for Foreign Language Education, the Handbook gives teachers a solid foundation of the principles and practices that are central to standards-based and proficiency-oriented language instruction and assessment. The Handbook gives teachers a wide variety of tasks and activities to use in the classroom along with ideas for adapting these activities for different levels and languages and longer curricular packages. While this 622-page resource is still available in print through the CARLA working paper series, it was recently put online to make it more available to classroom teachers and language teacher educators. The sections include: -Background Information -Proficiency Oriented Language Instruction and Assessment: Standards, Philosophies, and Considerations for Assessment -Key Materials -Tasks and Units -Resources for Teachers For more information about the handbook and to access the online version, visit http://www.carla.umn.edu/articulation/MNAP_handbook.html . |
