Laura Norman norm0083@yahoo.com NOTICE OF VACANCY Concordia Language Villages Moorhead, MN 56562 POSITION: Dean, Japanese Credit Abroad Program Part-Time Appointment RESPONSIBILITIES: The Japanese Credit Abroad Program deans position is a summer appointment of four weeks. The dean is responsible for program and curriculum development, staff management, participant selection and preparation, trip logistics, and overall administration. Attendance is required at Deans Council meetings during the academic year. The dean of the Japanese Credit Abroad Program reports to the executive director of Concordia Language Villages and to the administrative team as a whole. Concordia Language Villages annually serves over 8000 young people aged 7-18 from all 50 of the United States and numerous other countries. Language-centered, cultural immersion instruction is offered in thirteen languages. Concordia Language Villages is a program of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. CRITERIA FOR SELECTION: Fluency in Japanese and English Commitment to the importance of global language education Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for second language learning Strong organizational and management skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Previous experience leading student groups abroad Previous leadership position at Concordia Language Villages or in a similar language immersion environment, preferred B.A. degree required, with M.A. degree preferred Teaching certificate/credential or equivalent experience Ability and willingness to make a several-year commitment, at a minimum, to the dean position contingent on all parties agreeing to continuation), preferred Sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 12, 2003, 12 noon (central time) or until position is filled.
