On Friday night, September 19th, at the Embassy of France in Washington, DC, the event will be framed by a panel of three dynamic leaders in the foreign language profession- Marty Abbott, President of ACTFL, J. David Edwards, FL advocacy expert and Executive Director of the Joint National Committee for Languages (JNCL) and the National Council for Languages and International Studies (NCLIS) and Immersion expert Myriam Met, Acting Director of the National Foreign Language Center. The panelists will provide a lively exchange on the present and future of our profession. All
three are well-known for their enthusiasm and dynamic speaking ability. Attendees can expect an inspiring session followed by a reception in the beautiful French Embassy.

On Saturday, the scene switches to nearby Georgetown University's
Intercultural Center, which was made available by our co-sponsor, the
National Capital Language Resource Center. Saturday's events begin at 9:00 am with three rounds of concurrent sessions, an exhibitor's showcase and an afternoon Immersion program featuring student performers. Concurrent sessions include topics such as portfolio assessment, IB language programs, oral proficiency activities for advanced language learners, heritage languages, Latin American media and culture, advanced French topics, adult learners and a myriad of sessions on immersion programs and best practices.
There are sessions that will be of interest to administrators as well as faculty at all levels of instruction. A sessions at a glance feature will be posted on the GWATFL web site shortly.

After the third round, the activities will break for lunch on your own, with dining possibilities nearby on campus. It is our hope that attendees will use this time for networking before returning for the Immersion showcase that will conclude the program of events.

Note: Pre-registration is necessary for the Friday program, so that we can give the names of attendees to the French Embassy in advance. Thank you in advance for acting today.

Let's set the tone for a new school year with this rousing event.
