| Title | Funding Opportunity: CARLA Summer Institute Fee Waivers |
| Body | Opportunity for Teachers of Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) to Attend a CARLA Summer Institute for Free! LCTL instructors can receive a fee waiver (worth $350) to attend one of the CARLA summer institutes for language teachers this year. We have a limited number of waivers to give away and they will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The CARLA summer institutes offered this year are: - Immersion 101: An Introduction to Immersion Teaching - Meeting the Challenges of Immersion Education: Oral Language Assessment - Developing Materials for Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs) - Culture as the Core in the Second Language Classroom - Basics of Second Language Acquisition for Teachers - Using Technology in Second Language Teaching - Improving Language Learning: Styles- and Strategies-Based Instruction - Developing Assessments for the Second Language Classroom - Maximizing Study Abroad:Teaching Strategies for Language and Culture Learning and Use - Content-Based Language Instruction - Improving Language Learning through Pragmatics Detailed information about each of the institutes is available on the CARLA website at: http://www.carla.umn.edu/institutes/. These waivers are made possible with Title VI funding from the Institute for Global Studies, the European Studies Consortium, and the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) at the University of Minnesota. The waivers are not available to teachers who have already received a stipend for this year from the Title VI centers at the University. Applying for a fee waiver to attend a CARLA summer institute of your choice is simple! 1) Fill out a registration form for the CARLA summer institute of your choice and complete the participant survey. A PDF of the form can be found on the CARLA website at: http://www.carla.umn.edu/institutes/register.html . 2) Fax the registration form and participant survey to the CARLA office at: (612) 624-7514. Note: for this special waiver offer, registrations must be sent to the CARLA office rather than the conference registrar as indicated on the forms.
