TitleSuggestions for Reading/Paraphrasing Practice
Body
There are at least three problems when we work with reading at upper levels:

1. The readings in the textbooks are dull.
2. They are too difficult.
3. If assigned as outside reading, they come after math, English, history...

Try looking at the simpler readings on http://www.deutschlern.net for topics that support or replace the readings in your text. The readings can be put into printable form using the ARBEITSBLATT DRUCKEN button, although you still may have to reformat them a little. I find the readings here much more interesting and reasonable. Look also at the Maerchen at http://www.hueber.de . If you assign reading as homework, give a fast 3-5 question quiz at the beginning of class to test comprehension. Make the questions easy, so that they can get 100% if they made an honest attempt at the reading.

One thing that I have done with my AP students is that they are required to check out Das Tagesbild at http://www.zeit.de . It's authentic, it's short, and with an accompanying picture, students are usually able to figure out what's being said, without knowing all the words.
