TitleRecommended Text for French Grammar-Focused Practice
Body
Tired of coming up with example sentences, a French teacher recently complained to the FLTEACH listserv that textbooks include too few exercises, and that she was in need of a good resource for grammar practice. Here is one suggestion she received.

----

Although it does include some stories, translation exercises and even verb charts, grammar-drilling is the real focus of NTC/McGraw-Hill's ‘Reprise: A Complete Review for Grammar, Communication, & Culture’ (ISBN 0844214639). It has very repetitive grammar-focused activities with sentences and questions the student reacts to with complete sentences.

For example, in the chapter treating the pluperfect, future perfect, past conditional and conditional sentences, there are at least 14 substitution drill, questions to answer with a given subject, and sentence builder activities with about 8 sentences to work on in each activity, each one focusing on a particular phrasal construction in French. Some activities are just for quand, some just for si, some with an understood if clause, etc.

There is also an answer key available, although both may be either out of print or in a new edition. If you want lots of practice, this is your book. It's not very communicative, but for what it is, it's pretty good.
