TitleWorld Languages Week Ideas
Body
Does your school designate a particular week to celebrate linguistic diversity? Here are a few ideas from a letter to students about their school's celebration. These may be helpful for teachers and administrators hoping to increase interest and enrollment in foreign language classes.

----

The week will be full of fun activities and contests for all students in Spanish, German and French classes. You will win points for your participation in these activities. Prizes will be awarded to the three students who have the most points at the end of the week.

The day and date will be announced in the morning over the loudspeaker in many different languages.

A trivia question for Spanish students, one for German students, and one for French students will be read (in English) over the loudspeaker each morning. Answers can be dropped off in a box in your classroom. The first correct answer drawn at the end of the day will earn 5 points towards the contest.

Music from Spanish-speaking countries will be played in the cafeteria on Monday; from German-speaking countries on Tuesday; from French-speaking countries on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday you will hear music from other cultures.

How to win contest points:
- Answering trivia questions and having your correct answer drawn
- Winning your division of the poster contest
- Wearing your sticker
- Bringing in a relevant news article and reporting on it
- Making a dish from an authentic recipe for the banquet
- Attending the banquet
- Winning games played in the classroom
- Guessing how many M&M's are in the jar in the cafeteria

Activities that count towards your class grade:
- Making a poster or diorama on the assigned topic
- Making a sticker with an approved slogan or saying
- Reporting on a news article you bring in
- Making a dish from an authentic recipe for the banquet
