Jahrhundert Fellowship Program for K-12 German Teachers June 18 July 10, 2006 Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany Created in 2002, the Sprachakademie is a unique professional development program for K-12 teachers of German in the continental United States. It is designed to provide teachers with an energizing, supportive, and challenging environment in which to work collaboratively to enhance their teaching. In order to ensure broad access to the Program, all selected teachers will receive a generous fellowship of ca. $2,800 to cover most of the Program costs. Each year CGES awards fellowships to 10 American teachers. For the first time, Sprachakademie Fellowships for summer 2006 are open to teachers from anywhere in the continental U.S. Fellows will: * Experience German life, language, and culture intensively over three weeks in an historic and vibrant city in the heart of Eastern Germany * Visit schools in Eastern Germany and meet with local teachers and students * Renew and expand their German language skills and explore new teaching methods with their colleagues * Develop new teaching materials, rich in cultural content, for use in the classroom in the fall * Participate in two one-day workshops at the University of Minnesota on 5/7/06 and 9/23/06 For more information, visit http://www.cges.umn.edu/fellowships/sprachakademie.htm |
