Title | Arizona's English Language Learners Struggle to Graduate |
Body | High school students in Arizona who are learning English are joining their peers in other states who may only graduate after passing tests written in English. Even students in advanced English courses grapple with the possibility of being held back as they try to master content such as math and biology as well as the language in which those classes are taught. Several states allow students to take exams in their native languages. A lawsuit currently pending in Arizona would exempt thousands of students from passing the English-only exam, charging the state with inadequately preparing its English language learners.
