TitleImmigrant Children Lacking Early Education Opportunities
Body
A quarter of children under age 6 in the U.S. are children of immigrants, and more than half of these are from poor families. While many middle- and upper-class Americans assume that preschool attendance is the norm, many families cannot afford to place their children in early education programs which can reduce the need for special education and increase chances of graduating from high school. This Christian Science Monitor commentary describes the benefits of government-funded programs, already in existence in a few states, which are linked with the public education system.
