As of November 1, 2005, immigrants to the United Kingdom are required to pass an examination which measures not only language proficiency but also awareness of life in the UK. Teachers are concerned that the test is too hard, complaining that even they were hard-pressed to answer some of the questions. The government hopes that the test will encourage better integration into the nation's multicultural society.
