The Dean of the Japanese Language Village is responsible for program and curriculum development, staff management and overall administration of one-, two-, and four-week sessions in the summer. The Japanese Language Village summer dean’s position is a summer appointment of four or five weeks plus one week of orientation, in July and August. (After summer 2006, the position will be five weeks plus orientation.) Attendance is required at Deans’ Council meetings during the academic year. The Dean of the Japanese Language Village reports to the summer youth director of Concordia Language Villages and to the summer youth administrative team as a whole.

Concordia Language Villages is a program of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. The summer youth programs of Concordia Language Villages serve about 6000 young people ages 7-18 from all 50 of the United States and several other countries; families are participants in some summer one-week sessions. Language-centered, cultural immersion instruction will be offered in 14 languages in summer 2006.

Criteria for selection:
- Fluency in English and Japanese
- Commitment to the importance of immersion language and culture education
- Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for second language learning
- Strong organizational and management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Previous leadership position at Concordia Language Villages or in a similar language immersion environment, preferred
- B.A. degree required, with advanced degree preferred
- Minimum age of 25 (American Camp Association Standard)
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the dean position (see job description)
- Ability and willingness to make a several-year commitment, at a minimum, to the dean position (contingent on all parties agreeing to continuation), preferred
- Sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
