TitleEngaging Activities for Teaching -ER Verbs
Body
A recent request on the FLTEACH listserv for activities to engage a "difficult" group of ninth graders in learning -er verbs received the following replies:

----

How about grouping some -er action verbs together, using TPR to introduce them, having them say the verbs while doing the gestures, asking them if they do these things, ie., chanter, danser, jouer au foot, etc., (putting the conjugations on board for them to look at them to help them answer you), then putting each verb on an index card and having a group of 3 students (or separate class into teams) come up to the front and choose a card to act out, while the others guess. They'd have to say something like, "vous nagez!" to get a point.

----

You could let them make up a rap with the endings of the verbs; you could have conjugation contests in which they hurry to the board, two at a time, to conjugate them; you could show them the video "Standard Deviants," which my students like very much. You could give a homework pass to those who already know the verbs.
