TitleIdeas for Reading and Literature Activities
Body
A recent request on the FLTEACH listserv for ideas to teach reading and literature received the following suggestions.

----

Divide story into sections, have each student (or group) create a 6-frame cartoon with dialogue bubbles and appropriate captions that retells the story.

Using supporting information from the text, create a portrait of a character. Include more than physical traits. I ask that students use direct quotations from the text to justify their choices.

----

I use mini-plays and have students act them out to show understanding and help with fluency. I also have students make book jackets in the target language with a synopsis of the book. For working on fluency, create books on tape for your local Hispanic community.

----

Have the students retell the story in their own words, or even have them act out the story after they have read it. This helps reenforce the story as well as put a visual to what they are reading.
