| Title | Going to Philadelphia? Must-sees for German Lovers |
| Body | Philadelphia has many interesting things for those interested in German. 1. German Society of Pennsylvania - Since 1764. The library is a must-see. http://www.germansociety.org 2. Germantown - Neighborhood where Germans settled. http://www.ushistory.org/germantown http://www.germantownhistory.org 3. Old City Philadelphia has architecture and historical connections to German immigrants. http://www.oldcity.org 4. Ludwig's Garten restaurant in Center City - Fun atmosphere, Bavarian menu. http://www.phillytown.com/ludwigs.htm 5. Lancaster County - Home of the first German settlers who passed through Philadelphia. I highly recommend the Hans Herr House (http://www.hansherr.org,) a great example of 18th Century German immigrant living, very well restored, and I recommend the Ephrata Cloister (http://www.ephratacloister.org) another well-preserved example of the religious life of German immigrant groups in this area. Well worth the 1-hour 30-min drive from Philadelphia. There is tons to do with German in Lancaster County. http://www.padutchcountry.com Gwin, C.
