on-o-mat-o-poe-ia:
The formation or use of words such as "buzz" or "murmur" that imitate the sounds associated with the objects or actions they refer to.

The Heart of Japanese Onomatopoeias:
Japanese onomatopoeias -- The words and phrases referred to as giseigo, giongo, and gitaigo that give impact to Japanese language. Giseigo are those words that are used to express voice imitating sounds such as a cow's moo. Giongo are those words that express other sounds such as tapping and sounds of nature such as whistling storm wind. Gitaigos, on the other hand, are used to express other things such as mannerisms, intensities, textures, and actions.
