| Title | Pilot Schools Wanted for Online Japanese Assessment of Listening, Speaking, and Reading |

Thank you. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Japanese teachers, Would you like to find our your students' Japanese proficiency level for listening, speaking, and reading for free of charge this fall? Measuring student proficiency accurately and efficiently is the key maintaining high standards, motivating students, and improving articulation. The Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon is looking for pilot teachers willing to pilot an online assessment of speaking, listening, and reading this fall. This assessment, called STAMP 2, builds on an existing reading and writing assessment already developed. It assesses students' proficiency levels based upon ACTFL guidelines for Novice-Low to Intermediate-High. STAMP 2 is innovative both pedagogically and technically. Real life tasks are clustered based on different themes and the test is designed to assess interpretive and presentational modes in the national standards. The Interpretive section (listening and reading) is computer adaptive and its results become available immediately after test. Presentational mode (speaking and writing) sections are graded by human graders. The test uses streaming video and technology to record and deliver sound files over the Internet. To take the test, students just need a recent browser and Quicktime, both of which can be downloaded for free. If you are interested, please email jppilot@darkwing.uoregon.edu by July 31.
