Title | Making Your Tech Projects Salvageable and Sustainable – the Case of the RAILS Project |
Body | From: https://fltmag.com/making-projects-salvageable-and-sustainable/ As new technologies emerge, inevitably old technologies die or fade away. Adobe Flash was a popular tool for making interactive content widely available on the Internet in the early 2000’s. However, due to a variety of reasons, all major browsers stopped allowing Flash content to be viewed at the end of 2020. For the researchers at the RAILS Project, they realized the discontinuance of Flash would mean their project would become inaccessible. In this article, the author discusses the process the researchers used to migrate the project to modern web technologies, while keeping the unique aspects of the project that relied on Flash. The author also provides several tips on how to ensure projects can continue to be moved to newer web technologies in the future.
