Join us this week as we begin a 4-week series about listening strategies. This will include strategies for before, during and after listening that aim to help learners increase their understanding of what they hear. This week we take a look at how learners can decipher unfamiliar sounds by reading along with a transcript while listening.

Thank you to CASLS Graduate Intern, Anna Krinitsyna, for her role in the creation of this week’s video.

There are a few ways to get connected with us this week:

  • Join our InterCom Live! session. We connect on Facebook every Monday at 11:00 am Pacific. To join us, open CASLS's Facebook page at the designated time. Can't make it? The InterCom Live! events are always recorded, and you can find them on our Facebook page.
  • Check out the Activity of the Week! This activity helps learners deepen their understanding of sounds in the target language that are unfamiliar, seem hard to pronounce, or are very different than sounds in their L1 by reading along while listening to an audio or video clip.
  • Check out this blog post about strategies for listening to podcasts in the target language. It provides 7 steps for listening (including reading the transcript), and tips on how to make listening to podcasts in the target language a part of one’s day to day life.

Happy exploring! We are excited to continue engaging with you this week.
