This blog post discusses the history of the language that we know as Hindi. Herbert Dean describes the roots of the language in Sanskrit and its connections to other known languages. This post describes the changes undergone to the language overtime, and does so in a succinct but thorough way. Herbert Dean also discusses the changes to the orthography, and describes the periods that it went through. This post would be useful to any level learner of Hindi, and would also be useful to instructors as class material. As class material, this could provide learners with a background to Hindi and its orthography and would teach learners about the history of Hindi speakers.
